Book Description: The Pennine borough of Todmorden was one of the few municipalities in the North of England never to have had a passenger tramway system. Delays in the implementation of the Todmorden Corporation Tramways Order of 1902, allowed development of the internal combustion engine to advance to such a point that the motor bus became a competitor worthy of serious consideration. Thus the borough became only the second in England to run buses, the services commencing on 1st January 1907. Numerous teething problems almost caused the abandonment of motor buses and at one point their replacement by trolley buses was considered.
